Tom’s Midnight Garden, at Minack Theatre by Filippo Venturi

Tom’s Midnight Garden
Minack Theatre, August 21, 2023
adapted by David Wood from the novel by Philippa Pearce
directed by Kirstie Davis

When his younger brother catches measles, ten-year-old Tom is sent to quarantine at his uncle and aunt’s house near Ely. It’s dull in their stuffy flat and there isn’t even a garden to play in. Tom hates being cooped up indoors. But everything changes one midnight, when the big grandfather clock in hall below strikes thirteen and Tom finds himself in a very different world.

Philippa Pearce’s enchanting tale of time and the power of memory has captivated readers for seventy years. David Wood’s loving adaptation of this classic has introduced it to new generations of children with all the magic of the original story.
