Photo contest ‘Memory: War and Peace’

The turn of the 20th - 21st centuries seemed to be an era of hope and a reachable dream that there would be no war in the new millennium. The first two decades of the new century were overshadowed by numerous military conflicts around the world, declared and undeclared military actions, under the influence of which the life of entire regions was changing. New generations of people born and growing amid wars consider them as a natural form of social being.

In the new millennium climate change is on the agenda, and though we’ve been looking for excuses that humanity has become a victim of natural disasters, their speed is the fault of our civilization, which has been aggressive towards the planet for centuries. It is about life of the society and the planet (world) during the war (trials). In Leo Tolstoy’s novel “War and Peace”, peace was understood not only as a state opposite to war, but peace as a society, being as such*. The society is looked upon during the period of the Great Patriotic War of 1812, destruction and the changes the society undergoes are described, and members of the society recreate themselves and the world around them, despite the war ...

The year 2020 marks the 110th anniversary of the death of Leo Tolstoy, one of the greatest thinkers who influenced the development of the world culture of the 20th - 21st centuries. In 2019, 140 years have passed since the novel “War and Peace” was completed. Worldwide, 2020 is the commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the end of the Second World War, in Russia the 75th anniversary of the Great Victory over the Nazi invaders is celebrated.
