Fino allo scoppio della Seconda guerra mondiale la Corea era un unico Stato, con un lungo passato di dominazioni ma con solide radici culturali. Una sanguinosa guerra lo ha diviso e ne ha modificato il destino creando due nazioni che marciano a ritmi diversi ma che, curiosamente, mantengono alcune peculiarità simili. Nonostante le differenti sorti, Nord e Sud sono alle prese con la stessa affannosa ricerca, nel tentativo di esibire la propria eccellenza al mondo, sia dal punto di vista sociale che tecnologico, esercitando una enorme pressione sui giovani, a cui è affidato il compito fondamentale di condurre il paese, a Sud, verso la modernità e lo sviluppo economico, a Nord, verso un riscatto politico che esige la riunificazione e l’indipendenza.
Partendo da un accurato lavoro di ricerca e di preparazione del viaggio, Filippo Venturi ha dato avvio, nel 2014, a un progetto sulla penisola coreana. Nel 2015 ha realizzato, in Corea del Sud, Made in Korea, prima parte del progetto. Nel 2017, dopo circa due anni, necessari per documentarsi e per le lunghe procedure per ottenere il visto, si è recato in Corea del Nord per realizzare la seconda parte, Korean Dream.

Tutte le immagini sono rigorosissime e raffinate, nessun elemento appare “troppo” o “troppo poco”. Sorpresa, leggera ironia e mai sarcasmo. Stupore, curiosità e mai preconcetto. “L’occhio del fotografo” è preciso, si interroga, esplora, impara e ci restituisce immagini bellissime dove tutto è bilanciato e maledettamente nel posto giusto al momento giusto. Un'eleganza spiazzante, dalla quale tanti autori famosi potrebbero trarre insegnamento. Ma ciò che più colpisce è la capacità e la volontà dell’autore di parlare dell’uomo moderno e dei propri malesseri. Come la migliore arte contemporanea. L’approfondimento antropologico, preciso e puntuale, che si accompagna ad ogni immagine, fornisce spunti di riflessione su chi siamo e dove stiamo andando. Questo progetto fotografico ha ricevuto diversi premi e riconoscimenti, fra i quali: vincitore ai Sony World Photography Awards, ai New Talents di Fondazione Fotografia Modena, ai LensCulture Emerging Talent Awards, al Portfolio Italia (Gran Premio Hasselblad), al Premio Voglino (Frame Foto Festival), al Premio Il Reportage (Umbria Photo Fest) e al Gomma Photography Grant.

Presentation
Until the outbreak of the Second World War, Korea was a single state, with a long history of domination but with solid cultural roots. A bloody war has divided it and changed its destiny by creating two nations that march at different rates but, curiously, maintain some similar peculiarities. Despite the different fates, North and South are struggling with the same frantic search, in an attempt to exhibit their excellence in the world, both from a social and technological point of view, exerting enormous pressure on young people, who are entrusted with the fundamental task to lead the country, to the south, towards modernity and economic development, to the north, towards a political redemption that requires reunification and independence.
Starting from a careful research and preparation of the journey, Filippo Venturi started, in 2014, a project on the Korean peninsula. In 2015 he made Made in Korea, the first part of the project, in South Korea. In 2017, after about two years, necessary for documentation and long procedures for obtaining a visa, he went to North Korea to carry out the second part, Korean Dream.
